Phil Knight wants Oregon in the Big Ten

The Big Ten has planted its flag on the West Coast with the upcoming additions of USC and UCLA start in 2024, but the college football world is waiting to find out if more expansion moves will be made by the Big Ten. Among the schools evaluating their future in light of seismic shifts on the tectonic plates of the college football map is Oregonwith the support of one of the most famous alumni in school history who reportedly participated in guiding the Ducks through the big decision-making process.

That alum, of course, is Nike co-founder and chairman emeritus Phil Knight. According to an report by John Canzano, Knight and Oregon are actively reviewing every scenario on the table, including a move to the Big Ten when the conference opens its doors to them. Canzano suggests Knight prefers Oregon in the Big Ten, but there are still many variables at play for the future of the Ducks.

Orgeon and Washington are the two Pac-12 schools that would make the most sense for the West Coast Big Ten expansion to accompany USC and UCLA, should the conference go in that direction. But there are still some hurdles to overcome before that can even happen. State government officials propose laws in Oregon and Washington that would require the University of Oregon and the University of Washington to participate in the same conference as Orgeon State and Washington State, respectively. Whether those state proposals carry much weight is best left to those in Oregon and Washington to decide. But it’s worth checking just in case.

However, now that the Big Ten is adding USC and UCLA, adding Oregon makes sense for the Big Ten, as it would be another west coast travel partner for the Trojans and Bruins, rather than leaving them on their own island on the west coast. with the closest Big Ten enemy in Lincoln, Nebraska.

While all this is happening, the Pac-12 could be bracing for more changes on the horizon with a possible merger with the Big 12 or more schools opting out of the conference in favor of the Big 12
