Noah Lyles knocks over Erriyon Knighton as USATF Championships rivalry buttons

Noah Lyles confirmed his claim as the American 200m king by beating an 18-year-old phenom Erriyon Knighton at the US Track and Field Outdoor Championships.

Reigning World Champion Lyles won in 19.67 seconds and fourth moments before crossing the finish line, two hundredths ahead of Knighton, who tightened in the final meters. Lyles looked at Knighton’s track (and the scoreboard), smiled, and pointed to Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

“I saw him reach his top speed and I said mine is faster,” Lyles said Lewis Johnson as he stands next to Knighton.

Knighton, who also qualified for the World Championships in three weeks, also in Eugene, then said: “The work is not done yet. It’s never finished’, and walked away from the joint interview in which the third place was also Fred Kerley

Earlier this season, Knighton clocked 7:49 PM to become the fourth fastest man in history, replacing 24-year-old Lyles, whose personal best is 19:50.
