I find that at the start of a school year the air is filled with nervous excitement. A new semester brings with it a new set of students, challenges and expectations. There is the possibility of forming new friendships. For many students, new schedules bring with them the renewed challenge of striking a balance between the academic and social aspects of campus life. Rest assured, we are committed to providing students with access to opportunities to ensure they thrive personally and professionally.
We want each one of our students to achieve academic excellence. In addition to offering tutoring, our academic support programs work with students individually to help them develop personal learning strategies. The School is also committed to helping students engage with mentors. We believe that by connecting students to our powerful network we are preparing them for success academically and throughout their career.
As Dean of the School for the past two decades, I have continually been impressed by the network of support created by the School’s alumni, faculty and staff. University of the Pacific is committed to creating a student-centered learning environment. This would not be possible without the energy and dedication of the individuals who make up the Pacific family.
In addition to time in the classroom, our faculty members spend countless hours developing curriculum and pursuing research. Our staff work diligently behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly. I am also grateful for the alumni who give of their time to precept at both health care outreach events and during student experiential courses, help organize networking events and mentor students one-on-one. Thank you.
Welcome to the start of the 2017 academic year. I look forward to seeing what we will accomplish together.
